Often times family, friends, and people I’ve come across ask me about the brands preferred when cooking certain cuisines. This would also include the ingredients kept on-hand and in stock. Instead of trying to remember off the top of my head😩, this list is created for just that reason. My overall preferred brands, products, and ingredients may be attainable locally or purchased through links from  “Shop My Favorites” list.

Pantry

Libby’s, Corned Beef, 12 Ounce

This is a product I grew up on. When travelling my mom would make corned beef sandwiches. Right out of the can she would mash it up, then slap it right between two slices of bread. If we were eating it hot she would fry it with a small amount of vegetable oil, yellow onion, and ketchup. Add it over white rice which was simple but surely tasty for a quick meal.

Walkerswood Jamaican Jerk Seasoning

Mixed Pack – 10 Oz Each Hot & Spicy / Mild

I definitely keep one of each in my cabinet. Now I’m a woman who loves hot and spicy so it would be the way to go. Mild is for my guest who want to taste the island flavors without the added intense heat. It’s great to  marinate chicken, fish, pork, and root vegetables before cooking. This is a particular brand that I stick to that’s closest to the authentic jerk taste in my opinion.

Jamaican Choice Allspice Whole Pimento Seasoning | 4.5 Oz

Whole allspice berries is a must have in my kitchen. It’s a leading ingredient in many Jamaican cuisine, also known as pimento in the US. It is actually one of the ingredients in jerk seasoning. To preserve the potency I keep them whole. I’ll grind the allspice and set it to the side in a container for readily use. The smell once grinded is a welcoming pungent smell like no other. I’ve added it to baked goods, beef, chicken, seasoning mix, and savory sauces.

Refrigeration

Silk Almond Milk, Unsweet, Dairy Free, Gluten Free,  64 FL OZ Half Gallon

This milk has a nice creamy taste. Its considered a vegan product that contains 50% more calcium than dairy milk. I am not a big fan of diary milk since it tends to have some adverse effects every now and again on me. Almond milk is the way to go. It lasts 3 times longer than diary milk. I utilize it mainly as a base for my smoothies. Often time substituting it in place of diary milk for baked goods. The Unsweet Vanilla version is great to add to cereal hot or cold.
